The deathtoll in the clashes between rioters and security forces in southern Kyrgyzstan rose to at least 50 early on Saturday, health officials in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek said, DPA reported.
Seven people had died from their injuries overnight, a spokeswoman of the health authorities confirmed. More than 660 had been injured in the city of Osh in clashes between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbek youth which spilled over into battles with security forces.
The situation remained tense on Saturday morning, the Kyrgyz Akipress news agency reported. Gunfire was reported from several towns in the south of the country, and numerous buildings and cars had been set alight, a police spokesman said.
