UN supports Kyrgyzstan's peace efforts

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed organization's readiness to support further Kyrgyz efforts on the peace and security consolidation in the county, the Kyrgyz President's press-service reported on Tuesday.

Ban Ki-moon made this statement during the meeting with Kyrgyz President Rosa Otunbayeva in New-York in the context of UN General Assembly.

Ban Ki-moon said he supports Otunbayeva's decision about peaceful power transfer and providing democratic and transparent presidential elections to be held on Oct. 30.

He also thanked Kyrgyz Government for the measures, directed to the consolidation of interethnic harmony and the creation of special Conception on this issue.

UN is ready to finance appropriate programs, he stressed.

Ban Ki-moon regarded Kyrgyzstan as a good example of prevention diplomacy.

In turn, Otunbayeva stressed that she controls the election preparation process and invites international observers to follow the elections.
