Madumarov becomes second in Kyrgyzstan presidential election

Adakhan Madumarov surpassed Kamchibek Tashiyev and came to second place in the presidential election in Kyrgyzstan, KirTAG reported.

According to preliminary data for 11.30 pm local time received from 596 of 2318 polling stations (25.71% of the ballots), Madumarov is currently second with 14.48% of the vote. Tashiyev moved to third place with 14.08% of the vote. The country's acting prime minister Almazbek Atambayev is still leading the poll with 64.77% of the vote.

According to the latest data, 60.27% of the voters participated in the election.

The polling stations opened at 8:00 am and closed at 7:00 pm. According to the new Constitution the President of Kyrgyzstan is elected for six years and only one presidential term.

2289 polling stations were set up in the country as well as 29 polling stations in 23 countries worldwide.

Over 3 million voters are registered in the country to date.

792 international observers from 56 countries are monitoring the elections.
