Kyrgyzstan discusses joining Customs Union with Russia

Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 10

By Elena Kosolapova - Trend: Kyrgyzstan's Prime Minister Djoomart Otorbaev held a meeting with head of Russian Federal Customs Service Andrei Belyaninov, Kabar news agency reported on Sept.10 with the reference to Kyrgyz government.

Within the meeting the parties discussed in detail the technical issues of Kyrgyzstan's forthcoming joining to the Customs Union of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus. Moreover they discussed the agenda of the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Kyrgyz-Russian Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific-Technical and Humanitarian Cooperation.
In particular, the parties stressed the need to deepen cooperation in the cultural sphere.

Special attention was paid to the importance of joint efforts aimed at implementation of strategic projects in the energy sector, including cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Russian company Gazprom.

Earlier Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev said Kyrgyzstan planned to join the Customs Union by the end of 2014.
