BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 1. Electricite de France intends to support Kyrgyzstan in its energy transition, the press officer of EDF Jessica Goncalves told Trend.

According to her, EDF will take steps to assist Kyrgyzstan in developing its hydraulic potential and the modernization of electric power distribution networks.

She mentioned that in early November 2022, with the support of the French Embassy, the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan and EDF signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which specifies the conditions of this cooperation in the field of hydraulic production and improving the technical and economic performance of the distribution networks.

In addition, Goncalves underlined that EDF is strengthening its activities in Central Asia with the opening of an office in Uzbekistan's Tashkent. For instance, EDF with its partners NEBRAS (Qatar), SOJITZ (Japan) and KAYDEN (Canada) will start construction of a 1,600 MW gas-powered generation unit in Uzbekistan in the first quarter of 2023.

Electricite de France is a French multinational electric utility company, largely owned by the state. EDF operates a diverse portfolio of at least 120 gigawatts of generation capacity in Europe, South America, North America, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. The company specializes in electricity, from engineering to distribution.
