BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 8. Commercial banks in Kyrgyzstan purchased $17.35 million in interbank foreign exchange auctions from May 1 through 5, Trend reports with reference to the National Bank.
According to the bank, of this amount $10.8 million was acquired by banks with settlement on the transaction date, while another $6.55 million was settled on a date other than the transaction date.
At the same time, the value of the US dollar decreased by 0.25 percent on the market, from 87.52 soms to 87.3 soms. This is the first decrease since February 14, 2023.
During the last week, the trading was conducted only on May 2, 3, and 4, due to the holiday.
In 2022, commercial banks of Kyrgyzstan purchased $1.9 billion at interbank foreign exchange auctions. The largest sums of currency were bought in January, March, June, November and December due to the intervention of the National Bank in the foreign exchange market.
The average exchange rate of the US dollar at the auctions was at the level of 84.1 soms. At the same time, the USD was sold most expensively at interbank auctions on March 15 - at 105 soms.
