BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 12. Commercial banks of Kyrgyzstan purchased $8 million in foreign exchange auctions in the interbank market on May 11, which is 36 percent less than the $12.1 million bought by banks on May 10, Trend reports with reference to the National Bank.

Of these, an amount of $7.8 million was acquired by banks with settlement on the transaction date, and another $200,000 on a date other than the transaction date.

The value of the US dollar in the market amounted to 87.3 soms, decreasing by 0.02 soms, compared to May 11.

Meanwhile, in the period from May 1 through 5, the commercial banks of Kyrgyzstan purchased $17.35 million in interbank foreign exchange auctions. Last week auctions took place only on May 2, 3, and 4 due to the holiday.

During that period, an amount of $10.8 million was bought by banks with settlement on the transaction date, while another $6.55 million was settled on a date other than the transaction date.

In 2022, commercial banks of Kyrgyzstan purchased $1.9 billion at interbank foreign exchange auctions. The largest sums of currency were bought in January, March, June, November and December due to the intervention of the National Bank in the foreign exchange market.

The average exchange rate of the US dollar at the auctions was at the level of 84.1 soms. At the same time, the USD was sold most expensively at interbank auctions on March 15 - at 105 soms.
