BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 25. The volume of gold production in Kyrgyzstan’s Kumtor gold mine, the major gold mine in the country, amounted to 80,511 ounces or 2,504 kg from January through March 2023, Trend reports.
According to the provided information, the figure increased by 21 percent or 436 kg compared to the same period of 2022, when 66,474 ounces or 2,068 kg of gold were produced.
Kumtor Gold Company links the growth in volumes with a higher content of gold in the ore processed in the factory, as well as with an increase in the coefficient of extraction of metal from ore.
In the first quarter of 2023, the average amount of gold contained in the ore of the Kumtor mine was 2.34 grams per ton, with a gold extraction coefficient at 72.11 percent. In the same period of 2022, these indicators were 2.27 grams per ton and 67.46 percent, respectively.
A total of 556,375 ounces or 17,305 kg of gold were produced in Kumtor gold mine in 2022.
As shown in Kyrgyzstan’s statistical data, the country exported 882.1 kg of gold from January through March 2023, which is 35 times more than 22.9 kg in 1Q2022.
The value of these exports reached $50.2 million, marking a significant increase of 230 times compared to the $217,400 recorded in the corresponding period of 2022.
Out of the total export volume, 654.2 kilograms of gold, valued at $40.5 million, were sent to Switzerland, while exports to China amounted to 167.8 kilograms, with a value of $9.6 million.
