BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, July 27. Foreign investment inflows into Kyrgyzstan amounted to $1.166 billion from January through March 2023, which is 26.4 percent less than in the corresponding period of 2022 ($1.585 billion), Trend reports.
According to the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, direct foreign investments accounted for $170.9 million, decreasing 38.5 percent year-on-year ($278 million in 1Q2022).
Investments in the form of grants and technical assistance increased 20.3 percent year-on-year, from $6.4 million to $7.7 million.
Other investments amounted to $988 million, which is a decline of 24 percent compared to the same period of 2022 ($1.3 billion).
When comparing the first quarter of 2023 to the same period in 2022, the decline of foreign investment inflows was observed in all regions except for the Batken region and the city of Osh.
The main non-CIS countries investing in Kyrgyzstan were China, accounting for 17.2 percent of the total foreign investment, followed by the UK with 10.4 percent, Switzerland with 8.3 percent, Netherlands with 7.9 percent, and Türkiye with 4.6 percent.
Regarding direct foreign investments from the CIS countries, there was a 1.3 percent increase compared to the same months of 2022. It was driven by growth in investments from Uzbekistan, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. However, investments from Russia declined, particularly in manufacturing industries.
