BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, August 14. Kyrgyzstan imported 2.1 billion kilowatt-hour of electricity from January through June 2023, which is 32.3 percent higher than in the first half of the previous year (1.5 billion kilowatt-hours), Trend reports.
As per the data provided by the State Statistical Committee of the country, the value of these imports amounted to $57.052 million, increasing 54.9 percent compared to the same period of 2022 ($36.829 million).
During the specified period, Kyrgyzstan imported electricity from Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan:

(*) Under the agreement between the governments of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan exports electricity to Uzbekistan in winter, and in turn, Uzbekistan returns this energy supply in summer. This arrangement helps both countries meet their energy demands efficiently, which fosters cooperation in the region's energy sector.
Notably, import of electricity from Kazakhstan in the first half of 2023 increased by 57.8 percent year-on-year, while import from Turkmenistan dropped by 14 percent.
Meanwhile, a total of 7.583 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity were generated in Kyrgyzstan from January through June 2023. This is 13.8 percent more than in the corresponding months of 2022 (6.661 billion kilowatt-hours).
