BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, August 18. From January to June 2023, there were 53.6 million payment card transactions made in Kyrgyzstan, which is 74 percent greater than during the same time in 2022, as reported by Trend.
According to the National Bank of the country, the value of these transactions amounted to 203 billion soms ($2.2 billion), reflecting a 68.9 percent year-on-year increase.
Of these transactions, the number of cash withdrawal operations accounted for 24.9 million, for a combined sum of 163.1 billion soms ($1.8 billion).
At the same time, the number of transactions conducted through POS terminals within trade and service establishments reached 28.7 million, accumulating a total sum of 39.9 billion soms ($452 million).
As of June 2023, the total number of active banking payment cards in Kyrgyzstan reached 6.102 million, which is an increase of 16.6 percent since the beginning of the year.
The majority of these cards (3.247 million, or 53.2 percent) belonged to the national payment system "Elcart." The total number of payment cards in Kyrgyzstan issued by international payment systems reached 2.855 million, accounting for 46.8 percent of all the cards in the country.
