BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, August 21. A total of 307,500 payments, amounting to nearly 488 million soms ($5.5 million), were conducted using QR codes in Kyrgyzstan from January through June 2023, Trend reports.
According to the country's National Bank, out of these payments, 13,300, totaling 21.5 million soms ($243,570), were made for government services.
The majority of QR code payments in the country were carried out in Bishkek, accounting for 47 percent of the total payment amount. The distribution among other regions is as follows:
Osh region — 13 percent
Chuy region — 12 percent
Jalal-Abad region — 10 percent
Issyk-Kul region — 7 percent
Batken region — 5 percent
Naryn region — 3 percent
Talas region — 3 percent.
As of July 1, 2023, banks and payment organizations in Kyrgyzstan installed 12,874 cash registers for QR code payments in various trade and service establishments.
Meanwhile, there were 53.6 million payment card transactions made in Kyrgyzstan from January to June 2023, which is a 74-percent increase compared to the same period in 2022.
The value of these transactions amounted to 203 billion soms ($2.2 billion), increasing 68.9 percent year-on-year.
