Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund may assist Kyrgyzstan in small HPP construction

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, August 30. The Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund (RKDF) is considering the possibility of supporting the construction of a small hydropower station in the city of Mayluu-Suu in the Jalal-Abad region of Kyrgyzstan. Artem Novikov, Chairman of the Board of the RKDF, said, Trend reports.

According to him, this hydropower station will meet the electricity needs of the lamp factory in Mailuu-Suu as well as ensure uninterrupted power supply to the entire city. Additionally, the residents will have access to clean drinking water.

"The estimated total cost of the project is around $35 million. The construction of the hydropower station will mark the second phase of the modernization of the Mailuu-Suu incandescent lamp factory. It will have a capacity of 26 megawatts," Novikov said.

In general, the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers has allocated 1 billion soms ($11.3 million) for the modernization of the Mailuu-Suu incandescent lamp factory. Contracts have already been signed with foreign companies for the supply of modern equipment.

The RKDF plays a crucial role in Kyrgyzstan’s integration into the Eurasian Economic Union. The main objective of the RKDF is to foster economic cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Russia and promote the modernization and development of the Kyrgyz economy.
