BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 5. The Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund (RKDF) plans to allocate $4.2 million for the construction of a small hydroelectric power plant on the Gulcha river in the Alai district of the Osh region in Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports.

The fund announced that the new 9-megawatt hydroelectric power station will cover 86 percent of the electricity demand in the Alai district. Modern, high-tech equipment will be used at the plant.

Artem Novikov, Chairman of the Board of the RKDF, noted that this is the eighth hydropower project that the RKDF has undertaken in the past two years.

The combined capacity of the projects implemented by the Fund totals 153 megawatts, providing nearly 600 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. The total cost of these hydroelectric power projects is $183.6 million, of which the Fund has allocated $72 million.

Each project helps reduce energy deficits in Kyrgyzstan, supports increasing production capacity and the creation of new jobs.

The Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund was established and operates in accordance with the agreement between the Government of Kyrgyzstan and Russia dated November 24, 2014. The RKDF is a vital instrument in the process of integrating Kyrgyzstan into the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
