Trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and its CIS neighbors down

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 16. Trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and the member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) amounted to $3.168 billion from January through August 2023, which is 7.7 percent less than in the same period of 2022, Trend reports.

Data from the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan indicates that trade with CIS countries accounted for 33 percent of Kyrgyzstan's total trade turnover.

The country's exports to CIS members reached $981.917 million, which is 53.1 percent of Kyrgyzstan's total imports. The value of exports increased by 2.5 percent year-on-year.

Kyrgyzstan's imports from CIS countries amounted to $2.187 billion, which is an 11.6-percent year-on-year decrease. It accounted for 28.9 percent of Kyrgyzstan's total imports.

Among the CIS countries, the largest trading partners of Kyrgyzstan were Russia with a trade turnover of $1.760 billion and Kazakhstan with $860.785 million.

Overall, Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover reached $9.407 billion from January through August 2023, which is an increase of 27.3 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

Exports amounted to $1.85 billion, increasing 46.7 percent year-on-year. Imports reached $7.556 billion, growing by 23.3 percent compared to the same months of 2022.

In the structure of the trade turnover, exports accounted for 19.7 percent, while imports made up 80.3 percent.
