BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 17. A total of 16,526 tons of potatoes were exported from Kyrgyzstan from January through August 2023, Trend reports.
Data from the country's National Statistical Committee reveals an 18.5-percent decrease compared to the same period in 2022. The value of these exports decreased by 35 percent year-on-year, amounting to $2.707 million.
During this reporting period, the primary importer of Kyrgyzstan's potatoes was Uzbekistan, purchasing 12,916 tons for $1.338 million.
Kyrgyzstan also exported potatoes to Kazakhstan, amounting to 3,290 tons worth $1.248 million.
A smaller quantity of potatoes, specifically 298 tons valued at $101,800, was exported from Kyrgyzstan to Russia, and 21.5 tons worth $18,400 were sent to Azerbaijan.
At the same time, the volume of exports to Uzbekistan increased by 51 percent year-on-year, while deliveries to Kazakhstan decreased by 62 percent and to Russia by 90 percent.
Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover reached $9.407 billion from January through August 2023, which is an increase of 27.3 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
Exports amounted to $1.85 billion, increasing 46.7 percent year-on-year. Imports reached $7.556 billion, growing by 23.3 percent compared to the same months in 2022.
In the structure of the trade turnover, exports accounted for 19.7 percent, while imports made up 80.3 percent.
