Kyrgyzstan's imports from Russia decline

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 23. The trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Russia amounted to $1.760 billion from January through August 2023, which accounts for 18.7 percent of Kyrgyzstan's total trade turnover, Trend reports.

Data from the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan reveals an 18-percent decrease in trade with Russia compared to the same period in 2022 when it was $2.146 billion.

Kyrgyzstan's exports to Russia reached $481.664 million, accounting for 26 percent of Kyrgyzstan's total exports. This figure decreased by 4.4 percent in comparison to the first eight months of 2022 ($503.756 million). Clothing constitutes the majority of exports to Russia, amounting to $47.5 million.

Kyrgyzstan's imports from Russia during this period reached $1.278 billion, making up 16.9 percent of Kyrgyzstan's total imports. The figure decreased by 22 percent from $1.642 billion recorded from January through August 2022.

The imports from Russia mainly include petroleum products, valued at $358.2 million, non-alloy steel rods at $80.8 million, vegetable oils at $21.7 million, and fertilizers at $28.2 million.

During the period under review, Russia was the second-largest partner of Kyrgyzstan. China took first place with trade of $3.176 billion, or 33 percent of Kyrgyzstan’s overall trade operations.

Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover amounted to $8.153 billion from January through July 2023, which is an increase of 32.3 percent compared to the same months in 2022.

Exports amounted to $1.602 billion, increasing by 45.6 percent compared to the corresponding months of 2022. Imports rose by 29.4 percent year-on-year, totaling $6.551 billion.
