Kyrgyzstan, China partner to develop Kyrgyz coal deposit

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 25. Kyrgyzstan’s "Kyrgyzkomur" state enterprise plans to collaborate with China’s "Hebei Jinsheng Mining Engineering" company to jointly develop the coal deposit "Tegene" in Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports.

This agreement between "Kyrgyzkomur" and the Chinese company was signed in Bishkek following extensive discussions between Akylbek Japarov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, and China's Premier, Li Qiang.

Additionally, "Kyrgyzkomur" has signed an agreement with China’s "Tomiris-Ken" company for the joint development of the coal deposit "Sulyukta" (field 11).

An agreement has also been signed between "Kyrgyzkomur" and China’s "Kashi Shunbaofu Trade and Export Trade Corporation" for the joint development of the coal deposit "Torugart 1."

Moreover, an agreement for joint activity regarding the construction of a coal logistics center with a conveyor belt near "Irkeshtam," the Kyrgyz-Chinese automobile border crossing located in the Alay district of the Osh region, has also been signed.

In total, 12 agreements were signed between Kyrgyzstan and China following the negotiations.

During the talks, Li Qiang emphasized that China has been and remains a reliable partner for Kyrgyzstan and expressed full readiness to support projects of mutual interest.

According to the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, the trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and China reached $3.176 billion from January through August 2023. It increased by $560.1 million, or 21.4 percent, year-on-year. The Chinese share was 33.9 percent of Kyrgyzstan’s total trade turnover, making it the largest trade partner of the country.
