BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, December 7. Kyrgyz Temir Zholu (Kyrgyzstan Railways) National Company transported cargo in the amount more than 7.456 million tons from January through October 2023, Director General of the Kyrgyz Temir Zholu Dastan Usubakunov said, Trend reports.

He highlighted that the figure increased by 982,500 tons compared to the same period of 2022 (6.474 million tons).

The significant reasons behind the surge in freight volumes include the implementation of multimodal corridors such as China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan, China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan, Asia Pacific region-China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye-Europe, the deployment of 100 freight wagons acquired in 2021-2022, and an upsurge in population demands.

The most significant increase in transportation has been observed in the southern division of Kyrgyz Temir Zholu, which is attributed to the establishment of new export transportation routes by rail to countries such as Türkiye, Slovakia, Romania, Poland, the Netherlands, and Hungary.

On average, Kyrgyz Temir Zholu transports over 7 million tons of cargo per year. The enterprise stands out as one of the leading contributors among major taxpayers in Kyrgyzstan.
