Kyrgyzstan bolsters imports of passenger cars from Japan

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, February 19. Kyrgyzstan imported 9,300 passenger cars from Japan in 2023, which is 2.8 times more than in 2022 (3,309 passenger cars), Trend reports.

Data from the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan reveals that the value of these imports amounted to $205.862 million, increasing by 4.7 times compared to $43.364 million in 2022.

Among the top five countries from which Kyrgyzstan imported passenger cars last year, Japan ranked last. China led the list with 79,131 cars valued at $1.197 billion, followed by South Korea with 50,397 cars worth $434.868 million.

Kyrgyzstan imported 14,437 passenger cars from Russia, valued at $143.084 million, and 11,953 passenger cars from the US in 2023, with the import value reaching $209.619 million.

Overall, Kyrgyzstan imported 184,789 passenger cars in 2023, which is an increase of 4.4 times compared to 2022 (41,241 cars). The total value of imports reached $2.766 billion, representing a 5.1 times increase from $538.852 million in 2022.

Trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Japan amounted to $255.749 million in 2023, increasing by 2.7 times compared to 2022. Kyrgyzstan’s exports to Japan reached $774,300, which is a decrease of 39.4 percent compared to 2022. The country's imports from Japan totaled $254.975 million, which is an increase of 2.7 times year-on-year.

Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover reached $15.66 billion in 2023, which is a 29.9 percent increase compared to 2022. The country's exports totaled $3.308 billion, rising by 46.8 percent year-on-year. Imports to Kyrgyzstan amounted to $12.352 billion, which is 26 percent higher than in 2022.
