BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, April 4. Kyrgyzstan Railways, a state enterprise, transported cargo amounting to 9.367 million tons in 2023, Trend reports.

According to the company, the figure is 16.8 percent, or 1.345 million tons, higher than in 2022 (8.022 million tons).

It was noted that growth in freight traffic was driven by a 16.9-percent increase in imports to Kyrgyzstan and a 45.6-percent rise in exports compared to the same period in 2022.

The company stressed its dedication to making railway transportation safer and more sustainable every year. To boost container transportation growth and widen the reach of freight rail services in Kyrgyzstan, they've introduced a discounted rate for transportation along the international six-party multimodal route.

Additionally, the state enterprise is implementing new types of locomotive repairs, which were previously conducted beyond the borders.

Meanwhile, the volume of goods transported by all modes of transport in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 51.033 million tons in 2023, increasing by 6.8 million tons, or 15.3 percent, compared to 2022, according to the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan.
