BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, April 23. Construction of a concrete plant by the UK's Concrete Canvas company will commence in Kyrgyzstan in the near future, said Deputy Head of the Cabinet of the Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, Bakyt Torobaev, Trend reports.
According to the Cabinet of Ministers, this announcement was made during his meeting with the UK's Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs, David Cameron.
"Kyrgyzstan has a canal network spanning 30,000 kilometers, of which canals totaling 11,000 kilometers have concrete linings. If we lay concrete coverings on these canals, we can prevent water loss and ensure their rational use. Kyrgyzstan is an agrarian state with abundant arable land, making these materials highly needed in our country. The company's plant is planned to open soon in the Osh region," Torobaev said.
He further mentioned that entrepreneurs interested in investing will receive comprehensive support and prompt issue resolution from the Kyrgyz side.
It is noted that the products of the "Concrete Canvas" plant in Kyrgyzstan will not only serve the domestic market but will also be exported to Russia and Uzbekistan.
In November 2023, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Akylbek Japarov, during a working trip to the UK, met with the head of Concrete Canvas, Will Crawford. Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to consider the possibility of opening a company's plant in Kyrgyzstan.
In connection with this, representatives of the company presented their products as a pilot project in the Chuy region on April 23, 2024.
The company produces soft composite concrete canvas, which is laid on irrigation and hydraulic structures and tailings ponds and possesses a high degree of water impermeability.
