BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, June 4. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved a loan of 1.5 million euros to Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports.
This loan is part of the Kyrgyz Water Resilience Framework and will cover increased costs for the Myrzaki-Kurshab Regional Water project, according to the bank.
It will be lent to the Water and Sewage Agency of the Uzgen region joint municipal enterprise. Additionally, the credit will be co-financed by a 0.75 million euro investment grant from the EBRD Shareholder Special Fund. The loan will have a 15-year maturity, including a three-year grace period.
The project will fund essential drinking water improvements across five districts in the nation's Uzgen region. This includes repairing and expanding the water network, installing water meters and testing equipment, refurbishing and building reservoirs, intake facilities, and a water disinfection unit, as well as replacing pumping equipment.
As of February 29, 2024, the loan portfolio of the EBRD's projects in Kyrgyzstan was estimated at 232 million euros, covering 81 active projects. The bank has put in 970 million euros for 242 projects in Kyrgyzstan overall.
