Kyrgyzstan announces preliminary cost of constructing Kambarata-1 HPP

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, June 10. The preliminary cost of constructing the Kambarata-1 hydropower plant (HPP) in Kyrgyzstan is more than $4 billion, Trend reports.

The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Japarov, revealed this information while presenting the project at the International Investment Energy Forum in Vienna (Austria).

He emphasized the project's regional significance, highlighting its location in the upper reaches of the Naryn river. The installed capacity of the plant is 1,860 megawatts, with an annual output of 5.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. The reservoir's useful volume is 2.870 billion cubic meters.

Japarov detailed the project's components, including a rock-filled dam, a power plant with four hydroelectric units, construction and operational spillways, transport tunnels, construction facilities, residential areas, reservoir sites, and water treatment facilities. He assured that the construction project would not have any negative impacts on the environment or ecology of the region.

The chairman emphasized that the successful implementation of the project would enable the production and sale of electricity in both domestic and international markets.

Japarov also provided information about the preparatory work for the construction of the Kambarata-1 HPP, which has been divided into two stages with a total cost of 44.1 billion soms (approximately $506.835 million).

Additionally, he announced that the Kyrgyz government allocated an additional $500 million from the state budget for the period 2024–2030 for further construction of the Kambarata-1 HPP.

It was noted that the Kambarata-1 HPP has been designated as national, and Japarov urged international financial institutions, investors, and companies to participate in energy projects that fully address the modern challenges of the climate agenda.

The International Investment Energy Forum in Vienna focuses on the Kambarata-1 HPP construction project. The forum is organized by the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan with the support of the World Bank Group and the assistance of the Austrian government.

More than 200 representatives and leaders of international financial organizations, delegations from Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and private investors are participating in the event.
