BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, November 6. Kyrgyzstan invited the countries of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) to take part in the construction of the Kambarata-1 hydropower plant (HPP), the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov said at the 11th Summit of Heads of State of the OTS in Bishkek today, Trend reports.
"Today, Kyrgyzstan is taking measures at the national level and in cooperation with Central Asian countries to ensure energy security and improve energy efficiency. Work is underway to construct about 50 small and medium-sized hydropower plants.
Agreements have been reached for the joint construction of the largest hydropower plant, Kambarata-1, with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to participate in the implementation of this large-scale project," Zhaparov mentioned.
According to the president, Central Asia is one of the regions rich in natural energy resources.
"In Kyrgyzstan, electricity production is based on renewable hydropower resources and large hydropower plants. Our country also has significant potential for producing solar, wind energy, and 'green' hydrogen," he added.
To note, construction of the Kambarata-1 HPP is planned to begin in 2025, and the first hydraulic unit will be commissioned in 2028. The preliminary cost of the project is $4.5–5 billion, and the plant capacity is 1,860 MW. The hydropower plant is expected to produce 5.6 billion kWh of electricity per year.
