Tajik FM discusses cooperation with UAE

Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday, Asia-Plus reported on Friday with reference to the Foreign Ministry.

In Abu Dhabi, Zarifi met with State Foreign Minister Anwar Mohammed Gargash (Qarqash). The parties discussed wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation and prospects of its further expansion.

Hamrokhon Zarifi and Anwar Mohammed Gargash, in particular, discussed organizing governmental visits under visa-free system, expanding legal foundation of economic cooperation between the two countries, Tajikistan's admission to the World Trade Organization (WTO), regional cooperation and other international issues of mutual interest.

They talks also focused on security issues and the current situation in Afghanistan and a process of reestablishment of peace in the country. The sides pointed to the necessity of intensifying work of Tajik diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi and opening the UAE Embassy in Dushanbe as well as launching direct air route between Dushanbe and Abu Dhabi.

Tajik minister held talks with Hugo Lucas, Deputy Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

The sides noted a huge potential of using renewable energy resources in Tajikistan and providing more sustainable energy future of the country. They also discussed issues related to future cooperation and possible ways to establish close and mutually beneficial relations between Tajikistan and IRENA.
