EU states on progress achieved by Tajikistan in field of human rights

European Union states on the progress achieved by Tajikistan in the field of human rights, CA-News was told in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic.

Meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Khamrokhon Zarifi with the EU Special Representative for Central Asia Pierre Morel was held this week.

"Morel highly praised the holding of the next round of dialogue on human rights between Tajikistan and the European Union, which took place on October 25 in Dushanbe. Minister of Foreign Affairs described the process of dialogue on human rights between Tajikistan and the EU as a positive advancement of bilateral relations," reported the Ministry.

The situation in Afghanistan and the upcoming conferences in Istanbul and Bonn were also discussed at the meeting.

"Tajik Foreign Minister expressed the need for concrete solutions to reduce the presence of coalition forces in Afghanistan after 2014," said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan.

The parties also discussed the initiative "New Silk Road" and the preparations for the Fifth Regional Conference on Economic Cooperation on Afghanistan (RECCA V), which will be held in March 2012 in Dushanbe.

"Morel said that countries of the region should continue to play a more active role in stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan," added the Tajik Foreign Ministry.
