CEC: Emomali Rahmon wins elections in Tajikistan

Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 7

By Victoria Zhavoronkova -Trend: The Central Commission on Elections and Referendum of Tajikistan announced the preliminary results of the presidential elections in the country, Avesta.Tj reported on Nov. 7.

According to the commission's head Shermuhammadi Shohiyen the candidate from the People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan, the country's acting leader Emomali Rahmon gathered 3.23 million or 83.6 percent of votes.

Thus, Rahmon was declared the elected President of Tajikistan by the Central Commission on Elections and Referendum of the country.

Around 4.35 million Tajik citizens had the right to vote. Voting took place at 3158 polling stations in the country and 61 polling stations outside the country.
Six contenders were registered as presidential candidates.

For the post of the Tajik president, Secretary of the Communist Party, MP Ismoil Talbakov, Chairman of the Democratic Party Saidjafar Ismonov, Chairman of the Socialist Party Abduhalim Gafforov, a representative of the Agrarian Party Tolibbek Bukhoriev and Chairman of the Party of Economic Reform Olimjon Boboev also competed.
