BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 26. Tajikistan intends to develop the country's electric transportation sector, Trend reports referring to the asiaplustj.info.
The Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan has developed a draft "Comprehensive Program for the Development of Electric Transport for 2022-2026", which is currently under consideration by the relevant ministries and departments of the country.
According to the document, the benefits of electric transport include higher productivity, reduced greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions, drop in the level of air pollution and improved road safety.
The authors of the project emphasize that in developed countries, the share of electric transport (electric cars, trams, trolleybuses, metro, electric trains) accounts for half of the passenger traffic.
However, the electric vehicle market in Tajikistan shows a significant backlog, out of 445,000 registered cars only 120 are electric cars.
Notably, the developers of the project predict that the successful implementation of the "Comprehensive Program" will increase the share of electric transport in the overall structure of motor transport in Tajikistan by up to 15 percent.
