Tajikistan increases import of medicines

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 7. Tajikistan imported 12,135 tons of medicines worth $46.9 million in 2022, which is a drop of 1,348 tons, or of 10.3 percent compared to 2021, the Antimonopoly Agency of Tajikistan informed, Trend reports via Tajik media.

Tajikistan buys medicines from 57 countries. The main suppliers are: India (38 percent of total share of Tajikistan), Russia (97.2 percent of total share), Lithuania (4.7 percent of total share), China (3.3 percent of total share), Ukraine (2.9 percent of total share), Pakistan (2.7 percent of total share) Türkiye (2.5 percent of total share), Germany and other countries (1.9 percent of total share).

According to the official data, Tajikistan increases manufacture of pharmaceutical production by 3 times in 2022. The country produces 540 types of medicine. Tajikistan strives to attract foreign investment, open up-to-date enterprises on medicine production and provide wholesome processing of medical and organic herbs.

In overall, total value of imports of medicines to Tajikistan has amounted to $84 million from 2020 through 2022.

Meanwhile, Tajikistan is expanding cooperation in medicine field with Iran. On January 2023, the Director General of Drug Affairs from Iran and the Director General of Drug Affairs of Tajikistan signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of the pharmaceutical industry.
