BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 18. The United States Agency for International Development (USIAD) allocated a $13 million award to Tajikistan for the support of vulnerable households in the face of the growing issues in food security in the country, Trend reports with reference to the USAID.
According to the message, the financing will enable the World Food Programme (WFP) to support vulnerable populations, so they could better meet their food needs. It is expected that around 200,000 people in Tajikistan will receive unconditional cash payments within the program.
According to the information, the allocated money will enable the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to provide essential services for the prevention of malnutrition for 270,000 children and up to 240,000 pregnant and lactating women in the country.
Moreover, some 300 health facilities in Tajikistan are going to receive assistance and training services.
According to the WFP assessment, about 800,000 people in Tajikistan may find themselves in a situation of acute food insecurity due to the decrease in the volume of remittances of labor migrants and rising food prices in the world.
