BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 8. The World Bank (WB) plans to finance three new projects focusing on education, health, and social protection in Tajikistan in 2023, Trend reports with reference to the World Bank.

The cooperation between the bank and Tajikistan was discussed following the meeting of the WB’s Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in Tajik Dushanbe on March 7.

According to Bjerde, the projects, planned to be implemented in Tajikistan this year, intend to help the country build a more inclusive, resilient economy.

At the meeting, the WB representative said that the bank is committed to support the government and the people of Tajikistan, to provide a strong focus on the country’s human capital development, green infrastructure development and enhancing resilience through adaptation to climate change and social protection.

“Human capital investments are of highest priority for the World Bank in Tajikistan, given the country’s demographics and ambitious growth objectives,” the WB’s vice president noted.

Since 1996, the WB has provided over $2.72 billion in grants, credits and funds to Tajikistan. At present, the bank is financing 25 projects for $1.59 billion in the country.
