BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 5. The World Bank (WB) has backed the implementation of 116 projects in Tajikistan worth more than $2.7 billion for 30 years of cooperation, Trend reports.
The remark was made during the meeting of President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon with the Vice President of the Europe and Central Asia Region at the WB Antonella Bassani.
During the meeting, the WB’s representative highlighted the considerable opportunities in Tajikistan for the production and export of clean and renewable energy. In this context, she emphasized the development of a green economy in the country and once again reaffirmed the WB’s support for Tajikistan's contribution to the global climate change agenda.
The sides also discussed attraction of additional investments to Tajikistan in the areas of healthcare, education, social protection, water supply and irrigation. The issues of improving access to quality food products for the population, as well as the development of the digital economy, were also touched upon.
Furthermore, the parties identified areas of mutual benefit, including the support of economic reforms, financing energy development, and ensuring food security.
Tajikistan joined the World Bank in 1993, and since 1996, the bank has invested over $2.7 billion in grants, credits, and funds to Tajikistan.
Currently, there are 24 projects underway in Tajikistan, totaling over $1.5 billion, aimed at the development of the socio-economic sector and the well-being of the population.
