Prices for essential commodities in Tajikistan register slight decline

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 16. Prices for essential commodities (wheat flour, vegetable oil, and cottonseed oil) in Tajikistan from June 5 through 11 registered a decline of 1 percent, compared to the previous week, Trend reports.

According to the World Food Programme (WFP), the average retail price for first-grade wheat flour in Tajikistan stood at 4.9 somoni ($0.4) per kilogram as of June 5, which has not changed compared to the previous week. However, when compared to the same period in 2022, the price decreased by 35 percent.

Murgob City recorded the highest price for wheat at 6.1 somoni ($0.5), whereas Istaravshan City had the lowest price at 4.2 somoni ($0.3).

During the period under review, the average price for vegetable oil in Tajikistan decreased by 1 percent, amounting to 17.3 somoni ($1.6) per liter. The year-on-year decrease in the price amounted to 36 percent.

The highest price was registered in Murgob City – 28 somoni ($2.5) and the lowest in Qubodiyon town – 15 somoni ($1.3).

The average price of a liter of cotton oil was 16.2 somoni ($1.5) in the specified period, which is a 1-percent decrease compared to the previous week and a 36-percent drop year-on-year.

Murgob City recorded the highest price for this type of oil, reaching 28 somoni ($2.5) per liter, while Istaravshan City had the lowest price at 13 somoni ($1.2) per liter.
