DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 24. The volume of cargo transported by road transport in Tajikistan reached 50.403 million tons from January through June 2023, accounting for 94 percent of the total volume of cargo transported in the country, Trend reports.
Data from the Statistical Agency of Tajikistan showed that the figure increased 13.6 percent compared to the same period of 2022.
Additionally, the number of passengers transported by road transport also grew in the first half of 2023. Tajikistan's road transport served 431.015 million passengers, which is 8.7 percent more than in the same months in 2022.
Tajikistan recorded a rise in the number of registered vehicles in recent years, from 38,939 vehicles in 2014 to over 601,136 as of the beginning of 2023, according to the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan.
"As of January 1, 2023, there were 51,781 registered cargo trucks, 16,491 passenger vehicles, 524,045 passenger cars, as well as 4,419 trailers and semi-trailers in the country," the ministry said.
Meanwhile, the number of motorcycle users in the country dropped. If there were 6,221 owners of motorcycle registered in 2014, at the beginning of 2023 the figure was 3,726.
