BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 25. Trade between the US and Tajikistan has seen significant growth over the past two years, a source at the US State Department told Trend.
According to the State Department, if in 2021, the total trade volume between the two countries amounted to $44.9 million, in 2022, the trade figure saw a substantial increase, reaching $152.4 million. The majority of this trade comprised imports from the US to Tajikistan.
“These imports included poultry meat, vaccines, medicine, passenger vehicles, construction machinery, and spare parts for airplanes,” the source said.
It is noted that one of the significant contributions of the US to Tajikistan's economy has been in providing employment opportunities for the country's growing workforce through the development of the food processing, information technology, textiles, health care, and mining, agribusiness, and tourism sectors.
The State Department said that the emergence of COVID-19 in 2020 had a huge impact on travel between the counties, not only leisure travel but also work travel and cargo transfers.
“As we emerge from the pandemic, we look forward to continuing to work with Tajikistan to develop its historical sites and share its natural beauty and culture with the world,” the source said.
“The US-Tajikistan bilateral relationship is built upon a shared commitment to peace, prosperity, and security in Tajikistan and Central Asia. The US is committed to supporting the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Tajikistan,” the State Department said.
