DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, August 10. Tajikistan plans to attract over $100 million to the tourism sector in the coming years, Kamoliddin Muminzod, Head of the Tourism Development Committee under the Government of Tajikistan, said, Trend reports.
According to Muminzod, these investments will be disbursed into 4 new projects.
In the first half of 2023, a Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) and a Sustainable Tourism Development Plan for Tajikistan for 2022-2030 were prepared by international WTO consultants, he added.
Moreover, a competition among consulting firms was also announced to develop two master plans for tourism development - the first for Dushanbe and its surroundings, and the second for Pendzhikent and the Fann Mountains.
Based on these, 4 investment projects will be developed with a total sum exceeding $100 million. For the first project, set to commence in 2025, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has allocated $45 million as a grant. Currently, $10 million worth ADB project is underway in tourism sector.
Meanwhile, over the past 5 years, more than 3.9 million people have visited Tajikistan. In 2022, the country welcomed 999,300 foreign tourists, which is 3.4 times, or 703,000 tourists more year-on-year. By the end of this year, Tajikistan expects the arrival of over 1 million foreign guests.
