DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 1. The Russian Unistream system has suspended money transfers to and from Tajikistan in dollars and euros and will now only operate with rubles, Trend reports.

Customers need to withdraw any unused funds in foreign currency before September 30, according to the company's announcement. The statement also clarifies that refunds for transfers made in dollars and euros will not be possible after September 30.

On July 20, the US authorities imposed sanctions on five Russian credit institutions, including the Unistream system. Individuals and entities subject to the new sanctions are prohibited from conducting business with people and organizations in the US.

Unistream, which became an independent bank in 2006, acts as one of Russia's largest money transfer systems. It provides services to customers across 150,000 points in 63 countries worldwide.

In 2020, users of the bank carried out over 6.7 million money transfers, amounting to a total of 137 billion rubles ($1.4 billion at today’s rate). These transfers were sent to various countries, including Uzbekistan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, the Philippines, and many others.
