Wages in Tajikistan's service sector keep growing

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 14. The nominal average monthly wage for a worker in Tajikistan's service sector has reached 1,849 somoni ($168.3) from January through June 2023, Trend reports.

Data from the National Bank of Tajikistan shows that this figure represents a 3.18 percent decrease compared to the period from January to May 2023.

Since the beginning of 2023, the service sector in Tajikistan experienced a gradual increase in the nominal average monthly wage, with the following progression:

In January 2023, it was 1,731 somoni ($157).

From January through February 2023, it was 1,738 somoni ($158.2);

From January through March 2023, it was 1,780 somoni ($162);

From January through April 2023, it was 1,786 somoni ($162.6);

From January through May 2023, it was 1,792 somoni ($163).

In contrast, the nominal average monthly wage in Tajikistan's real sector reached 2,312 somoni ($211) from January through June 2023, which is a decrease of 0.78 percent compared to the period from January through May 2023.

According to the Ministry of Labor, Migration, and Employment of Tajikistan, the service sector includes services provided in wholesale and retail trade, hotels and restaurants, transport sector, storage, communication and financial intermediation sectors, real estate operations, rental and business activities, government administration, education, healthcare and social services, communal and social services, and other organizations.

On the other hand, the real sector of the country encompasses agriculture and forestry, fishing, mining and extraction, manufacturing, energy, gas, water supply, and construction sectors.

The nominal average monthly wage per worker in Tajikistan reached 2,226 somoni ($203) from January through June 2023.
