DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 12. Industrial production in Tajikistan’s Dushanbe reached 2.9 billion somoni ($264.5 million) from January through September 2023, Trend reports.

The mayor of the Tajik capital Rustam Emomali noted that this is 21.2 percent higher than in the same period of 2022.

He further explained that out of the planned 27 factories and enterprises for 2023, 10 have already been put into operation.

However, industrial growth rates across the country saw a decline as of the end of August 2023.

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) reported earlier this week that the industrial growth pace in Tajikistan slowed down to 3.8 percent as of the end of August.

Back in November of 2022, the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan announced plans to launch 870 new industrial enterprises within five years. Tajikistan's industrialists have committed to increasing industrial production by 2.5 times, from 38.8 billion somoni ($3.5 billion) in 2021 to 95 billion somoni ($8.6 billion) by 2026.

It's anticipated that during this period, the export volume of industrial products will double.

The government's directives in the ministry are closely tied to the significance of the industrial sector for the country's ongoing economic development, aligning with the declaration of 2022-2026 as the "Years of Industrial Development."

According to the action plan for this five-year period, the industrial sector's contribution to the country's GDP is projected to reach 26 percent by 2026. As of the end of June 2023, the industrial sector's share in Tajikistan's GDP amounted to 18 percent.
