DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, November 4. The construction project of the Sebzor Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) in Tajikistan has received gold certification from the Hydropower Sustainability Council, Trend reports
Sebzor HPP also stands as the world's first project to be certified under the Hydropower Sustainability Standard since March 2023.
Daler Juma, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan, emphasized that this achievement underscores the ongoing commitment of the Tajikistan government to enhance sustainability in hydropower development.
According to him, compliance with such high sustainability criteria has been made possible thanks to the continuous support and dedication of Tajikistan's development partners - the EU and Germany. The certification process has already brought significant and practical benefits to the project.
"We are also very thankful to the International Hydropower Alliance and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) for their support in conducting the project's assessment and certification," Amrikhon Raimov, the General Director of Tajikistan's Pamir Energy company, said.
The Sebzor HPP has a planned capacity of 11 MW. The commercial operation is scheduled to commence in 2025, with an average output of 77.6 GWh per year.
The Hydropower Sustainability Standard is a global certification scheme that outlines sustainability expectations for hydropower projects worldwide. This standard encompasses twelve environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects, including topics like biodiversity and invasive species, indigenous peoples, and cultural heritage.
