DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, November 13. Tajikistan has disbursed over $212 million for the payment of the country's external debt from January through September 2023, Tajikistan's Minister of Finance, Fayziddin Kakhkhorzoda, said during a parliamentary session, Trend reports.
He mentioned that $139 million was allocated for repaying the principal debt, with interest totaling over $73 million.
Meanwhile, payments towards the domestic debt, including securities and treasury bills, for the same period amounted to almost 604 million somoni ($55.115 million). Of this, 568 million somoni ($51.830 million) represents the principal amount, with loan interest reaching 37 million somoni ($3.376 million).
In August of this year, the minister noted that changes in the external debt will occur next year when the country starts signing credit agreements for the Rogun HPP construction. In 2024, the government of Tajikistan plans to sign agreements to attract substantial funds from international financial institutions to finance the Rogun project.
As of the beginning of this year, Tajikistan's external debt stood at $3.2 billion, or 28.5 percent of the country's GDP.
