DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, December 4. More than 2.532 million tons of coarse fodder and 86,789 tons of succulent fodder were stockpiled for the winter feeding of both large and small livestock in Tajikistan as of November 1, 2023, Trend reports.
The Ministry of Agriculture in the country indicated that the preparation of coarse fodder exceeded the planned target by 10 percent. Meanwhile, the collection of succulent feed stands at 84 percent of the initial plan.
As per the prospective plan for 2023, all agricultural sectors are expected to procure 2.295 million tons of coarse fodder and 103,222 tons of succulent fodder. The forage harvesting season for livestock is approaching its conclusion.
Leading in fodder production is the Khatlon region, responsible for stockpiling 1.214 million tons of coarse fodder and 40,712 tons of succulent feed.
Succulent feed comprises green feed, pasture grass, crops, beet tops, fodder pumpkins and watermelons, root crops, silage, as well as certain industrial by-products. Meanwhile, dry feed constitutes a mixture of grain, high-protein products, vitamins, and micronutrients used for animal feeding.
There are 36 private enterprises engaged in fodder production operating in Tajikistan.
