Tajikistan increases budget allocations for transport sector in 2024

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, January 7. An allocation of 3.530 billion somoni ($323 million) is earmarked for the transport and communications sector from the state budget of Tajikistan in 2024, Trend reports.

As per Tajikistan's Ministry of Transport and Communication, this figure is 643,259 somoni ($58,908) higher than the allocation for the year 2023.

It was noted that Tajikistan is currently implementing several state investment projects in the transport sector, totaling 10.7 billion somoni ($979 million). Overall, 17 investment projects amounting to 11 billion somoni ($1 billion) are being implemented in Tajikistan's transport sector.

Additionally, it was mentioned that in September 2023, Tajikistan initiated road certification for the first time, commencing with the international strategically significant Dushanbe – Kulma highway, stretching across a length of 1008 km and linking Tajikistan to China.

Road certification encompasses a series of activities aimed at comprehensive road inspection and measurement. To acquire specialized equipment for this, the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan received support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Overall, the total length of Tajikistan's road network amounts to approximately 26,600 km, including 3,348 kilometers of roads of international significance.

According to the ministry, i Tajikistan is set to put into operation 317 kilometers of international highways, 32 bridges, 5 tunnels spanning 11.2 kilometers in the next two years. Procedures are also planned to be implemented to prevent avalanches.
