DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, February 19. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has passed the concept for a project to provide Tajikistan with a sovereign loan of up to 30 million euros, Trend reports.

This loan will be used to improve public transportation infrastructure in the riverside area of Dushanbe. Currently, the project is awaiting final review. Its total cost is 34.160 million euros.

The project includes the reconstruction of roads and a bridge over the Varzob river, as well as the development of infrastructure for sustainable mobility. This includes dedicated lanes for buses and trolleybuses, facilities for walking and cycling, and support for electric mobility in the Tajik capital.

The project aims to enhance transportation infrastructure in Dushanbe, focusing on promoting sustainable mobility options and providing infrastructure for electric vehicle charging. It is the second investment following the Dushanbe Green City Action Plan (GCAP).

Furthermore, the project is expected to have positive impacts by encouraging a shift in transportation habits toward more sustainable modes of mobility, reducing reliance on private vehicles. Its goal is not only to contribute to environmental sustainability, but also to help mitigate the impacts of climate change.
