DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, March 2. Tajikistan's wholesale and retail trade, as well as car repair turnover, saw a significant increase in 2023 compared to the previous year, reaching 56.124 billion somoni ($5.143 billion), a rise of 13.4 percent in comparable prices from 2022, Trend reports.
According to official data released by the Statistical Agency under the President of Tajikistan, food items dominated the overall sales volume, with flour and bread at 17.5 percent, followed by meat and sausage products comprising 15.5 percent, sugar and confectionery at 4.9 percent, vegetables and potatoes at 5.3 percent, and vegetable oil at 4.4 percent.
Among non-food items, construction materials held the largest share at 29.1 percent, followed by automobiles and spare parts at 9.6 percent, fabric at 8.8 percent, electrical goods at 4.6 percent, and others.
Tajikistan continues to diversify its trade portfolio, with a focus on enhancing both domestic production and import activities to meet the demands of its growing population and expanding economy.
Tajikistan's foreign trade turnover amounted to $8.328 billion in 2023, which is 13.9 percent more than in 2022.
