DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, March 4. Outstanding loans of credit financial institutions in Tajikistan to the agricultural sector totaled 2.734 billion somoni ($250.202 million) in 2023, Trend reports.
Data from the National Bank of Tajikistan shows that the figure rose by 12 percent compared to the 2022 year's figure of 2.433 billion somoni ($222.743 million).
The agricultural sector emerged as one of the top recipients of loans, alongside the consuming and industrial sectors. Loans to the consuming sector amounted to 8.189 billion somoni ($749.418 million), while the industrial sector received 2.678 billion somoni ($245.077 million).
Overall, Tajikistan's credit financial institutions experienced a significant uptick in outstanding loans, reaching 18.991 billion somoni ($1.737 billion) in 2023, an increase of 32 percent compared to the 14.382 billion somoni ($1.316 billion) recorded in 2022.
As of December 31, 2023, Tajikistan boasted a total of 63 credit financial organizations in operation. Among these were 14 traditional banks, 1 Islamic bank, 1 non-bank credit organization, 19 microcredit deposit organizations, 3 microcredit organizations, and 25 microcredit funds, underscoring the diverse landscape of the country's financial sector.
