DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, March 15. Tajikistan has registered a total of 666,074 motor vehicles as of March 1, 2024, including passenger cars, trucks, and buses, Trend reports.
According to the Tajik Ministry of Transport, referencing data from the Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan, this figure marks an increase from the 601,136 vehicles registered a year ago.
Presently, the Traffic Police Department has records of 562,000 passenger cars. Contrastingly, in 1991, only 216,000 passenger cars were registered in Tajikistan.
In comparison, in 2014, the country had a total of 38,939 registered vehicles of all types. By March 1, 2023, this number had surged to 51,781 trucks, 16,491 buses, 524,045 passenger cars, and 4,419 trailers and semi-trailers.
As per a resolution by the Government of Tajikistan dated August 2, 2023, the import of vehicles manufactured before 2013 into the country is prohibited.
According to the Statistical Agency under the President of Tajikistan, a total of 120.576 million tons of goods were transported by all modes of transportation in Tajikistan in 2023, which is 16.6 percent more than in 2022. Automobile transport accounted for 94.6 percent of the total volume of goods transported in Tajikistan.
