Tajikistan's fishery production on decline

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, March 29. The fishery production in Tajikistan amounted to 17.6 million somoni ($1.605 million) in the first two months of 2024, which is a 30.1 percent decrease compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.

According to the Statistical Agency under the President of Tajikistan, the total fish catch across the country amounted to 746.1 tons, including 475.3 tons in the households of the Khatlon region, 226.2 tons in the Sughd region, 0.02 tons in the Gorno-Badakhshan region, 44.2 tons in the cities and districts of Vahdat, and 0.2 tons each in Hissar and Fayzabad.

The main fish species in the total catch included 495.5 tons of carp, 71.4 tons of carp bream, 28.5 tons of trout, 81.8 tons of white amur, 0.9 tons of zander, and 68 tons of others.

During the reporting period, Tajikistan received 201.7 tons of concentrated fish feed. A total of 1.575 million somoni ($143,669) was spent on production costs for fish farming and research activities.

The value of agricultural production in Tajikistan amounted to 1.016 billion somoni ($92.412 million) in January 2024. The output of crop production amounted to about 8.4 million somoni ($764,042), while livestock production reached 1.008 billion somoni ($91.685 million).
