DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 1. Tajikistan's mining industry has shown growth in the first five months of 2024, producing goods worth 3.9 billion somoni ($366.607 million), Trend reports.
Data from Tajikistan’s Agency of Statistics indicates that this figure increased by 20.3 percent, or 656.8 million somoni ($61.740 million), compared to the same period last year, adjusted for comparable prices.
The accelerated growth in the mining sector can be attributed to increased production of coal and lignite by 42.6 percent, metallic ores by 42.9 percent, and other minerals by 5.1 percent, compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.
Overall, Tajikistan's industrial production reached 18.2 billion somoni ($1.710 billion) from January to May 2024, marking a 10 percent, or 1.8 billion somoni ($169.203 million), increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Sectorally, mining contributed 21.3 percent to the total industrial output, while manufacturing accounted for 56.8 percent, and electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply made up 21.3 percent. Water supply, sewage, waste management, and remediation activities constituted 0.6 percent of the total production.
